Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) combines endoscopy with ultrasound imaging to provide detailed views of the digestive tract and nearby organs. The procedure is performed with sedation, and proper preparation helps ensure safety, comfort, and accurate results.
Preparation for EUS follows a structured timeline leading up to the day of your procedure. You’ll review medications in advance, follow fasting guidelines before arrival, and arrange for transportation home afterward. Detailed instructions and exact timing are provided below.
Bring all insurance cards and a photo ID with you.
Please check with your insurance company regarding prior-authorization. You will be asked to arrive 2 hours prior to your procedure time. A responsible driver is required to drive you home or your procedure will be cancelled.
You can anticipate a minimum of 4 hours from the time of your arrival until discharge.
If your insurance requires a referral or prior authorization, our billing office will make every effort to obtain it before services are rendered. If you choose to proceed without required authorization, insurance may deny coverage. If you are a Medicare patient, you may be asked to sign an Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) acknowledging financial responsibility if insurance does not pay. If you are enrolled in a commercial insurance plan you will be asked to sign a non-covered services form.
