FibroScan is a quick, noninvasive test that measures liver stiffness and fat. It helps assess liver health without needles or sedation.

What the Patient Can Expect:

• Patient needs to arrive to IGA with copy of medical insurance
• Patient needs to arrive to IGA on a 3-hour fast
• Minor water use is ok, if prescriptions need to be taken during this time, but no other food, drinks, mints, or gum for three hours prior to arrival
• Patient can expect 20 to 30 minutes total in IGA for exam, with the actual exam only lasting 4 - 10 minutes
• Patient will be asked to lie on bed, and raise shirt to just under the bra line, as the scan needs clear access to liver
• Patient should wear clothing with this in mind

What the Referring Provider Can Expect:

• Patient will NOT need pre-consult or in office visit
• Patient will be examined with elastography, via FibroScan. Results and interpretation will be sent back to you within 1 week
• If patient presents with F3 or greater, patient will be recommended to follow up with IGA hepatologist, as disease progression is significant

What the Referring Provider Will Need to Provide:

• FIB-4 required before patient visits office and FIB-4 results need to be sent on behalf of patient to the medical records email listed above
• The FIB-4 is required by payers to access Wegovy for MASH, if the patient meets an F2 or F3
